If the gods of the ancient world were rule over specific areas of life, what was the motivating factor that caused people to specify the need for a god? Usually the overwhelming need is certitude. It most often has to do with supply and security. The gods of certitude are still among us today. These gods are as old as the Ancient Near Eastern religions even if they have modern window dressing. The God of the Bible critiques these gods of certitude in Psalm 115.
